RENO, Nev. - A 24-0 run in the first half and 21 second half points on 6-of-7 shooting from behind the three-point line by senior Lucas Stivrins lifted the Nevada men's basketball team to a convincing 108-57 victory over Holy Names at Lawlor Events Center on Monday evening.
The Wolf Pack's 108 points are the most since dropping 112 against Houston on Nov. 21, 2009. The final score marked Nevada's largest margin of victory since defeating Sonoma State, 95-39, on Dec. 9, 2008. Stivrins' 21 points was a career-high and game-high for the Pack (5-2, 0-0 MW) while fellow senior Marqueze Coleman dished out a career-high 11 assists.
A jumper from the elbow by freshman Cameron Oliver gave the Pack a 13-8 lead with 14:21 to go in the first half but Holy Names used a 7-2 run, including four points from Jonathan Cortez, to tie up the score at 15-15. Head coach Eric Musselman used two timeouts during the run.
After the second timeout, the Wolf Pack pieced together an impressive 24-0 run that featured seven points from senior Tyron Criswell and a couple of highlight reel dunks from Oliver that put Nevada up 39-15. The Pack closed the half on an 18-6 run that made it 57-21 heading into the locker room.
The second half was all Stivrins as the senior hit his first of six three-pointers at the 8:17 mark that put Nevada up 89-38. His fourth made shot from downtown put the Pack at the 100-point plateau for the first time since a 100-92 victory over New Mexico State on March 4, 2010.
The Pack will next travel to Oregon State on Saturday, Dec. 5 for a 1 p.m. game that will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Network.
