STOCKTON, Calif. - The University of Nevada men's tennis team had two singles players and its B doubles team fall in semifinals on day two of the Pacific Invitational at the Hal Nelson Tennis Courts on Saturday. The seven team invitational concludes on Sunday.
Senior Andrew Poustie lost his A singles semifinal match in three hard fought sets 6-7, 6-4 and 6-2 to Pacific's Sem Verbeek. In the B singles senior Robert Allan also lost in three sets 7-5, 6-7 and 7-6 to St. Mary's Jacob Lagman.
Freshman Jonathan Aremon lost his B singles semifinal consolation match 6-4, 6-2 to Eli Whittle of UC Davis.
Another Pack freshman Aaron Breust found success in the C singles and will play in the finals on Sunday. Breust won his semifinal match on Saturday in straight sets 6-3, 6-1 over Sonoma State's Sullivan Roche. He will play St. Mary's Matthew Campana for the title tomorrow.
Sophomore David Pantel will play Brian Lee of St. Mary's in the consolation C singles finals on Sunday. Pantel defeated USF's Jason Lee 6-4, 1-6 and 1-0 in Saturday's quarterfinal then received a bye to the finals.
Two Nevada teams will battle in the A doubles consolation finals on Sunday. Allan and Peter O'Donovan advanced with a two wins on Saturday, 7-5 over a team from Sonoma State and defeated the San Francisco duo 6-3. Pack sophomore Mile Cilic and Poustie received a bye then knocked off the St. Mary's team 7-6 to reach the finals.
In the B doubles Ryan Andrada and Breust lost 7-5 in the semifinals to the Pacific squad. David Pantell and Aremon lost 6-3 to a doubles team from San Francisco in the B consolation semifinals.
Three members of the Nevada squad played voluntary singles on Saturday and all were winners in straight sets. Cilic defeated Tommy Lam for UC Davis 6-3, 6-0. Andrada downed Jesse Ross of UC Davis 6-0, 6-4. O'Donovan scored a 6-3, 7-6 victory over Alec Wagner of St. Mary's.
