SAN JOSE, Calif. - Rounding out the weekend road swing, the Nevada soccer team fell to San Jose State by the final score of 2-0 Sunday afternoon in Mountain West action.
The Wolf Pack (6-10-2, 3-6-1 MW) ran into the league's second place team on Sunday and held the Spartans (9-7-2, 7-3-0 MW) in check for the opening half. The Nevada defense allowed SJSU to register just two shots in that 45 minute span and enter halftime in a scoreless bout.
It was a quick strike in the early goings of the second half though that put the Spartans ahead for good. In the 46th minute, SJSU's Dorthe Hoppius took a one-touch pass in the box and fired a low shot towards the left post that found its way into the back of the net, giving San Jose State the 1-0 lead.
The Spartans struck again for an insurance marker in the 74th minute as Rachel Docherty headed in a cross, putting her team ahead 2-0.
Nevada goalkeeper Kelsey Quintos stopped two shots in the match, one in each half of play.
With today's loss the Wolf Pack has officially been eliminated for contending for a postseason berth.
Nevada will conclude the regular season with a road and Governor's Series contest at UNLV this Friday evening.
