SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - Cody Fajardo's second rushing touchdown, a 2-yard run to start the fourth quarter, lifted Nevada to a 21-10 over San Jose State in the Mountain West opener for both schools Saturday night.

Fajardo scored on a 14-yard run in the third minute of the second quarter to give the Wolfpack (3-1, 1-0) a 7-0 lead, but San Jose State (1-3, 0-1) came back with a 32-yard field goal by Austin Lopez with no time left in the first half and Tim Crawley added a 24-yard run for a touchdown to start the second half as the Spartans built a 10-7 lead to start the final period.

Nevada erased the deficit 2:13 into the fourth quarter as Fajardo scored from the 2 for a 14-10 lead. Three minutes later Nigel Haikins picked off a Joe Gray pass and returned it 27 yards for a touchdown. The Wolf Pack defense forced three takeaways tonight, improving its turnover margin to +6 on the season. Matthew Lyons led the Pack defense with a season-high 11 tackles.

Junior running back Don Jackson rushed for 106 yards on 12 carries. Jackson broke free for runs of 16, 17, 18 and 22 yards, averaging 8.8 per carry. Nevada rushed for 196 yards on the game behind Jackson, Fajardo (64) and James Butler (24).

Nevada has won six straight against the Spartans, including 11 of the past 12.

The Wolf Pack returns to Mackay Stadium next week Saturday, Oct. 4, hosting Boise State. Start time is set for 7:30 p.m. (PT) on CBS Sports Network.
