TUCSON, Ariz. - A five-goal first half proved to be too much for the Nevada soccer team as it dropped a 5-0 match Sunday afternoon to Arizona State on the final day of the Arizona Cats Classic.

"We are disappointed in our performance today," head coach Dr. Melissa Price said. "We played better in the second half but it was too little too late. We will use this as a lesson and be better for it."

The Sun Devils (6-1-1) came out with heavy pressure at the start of the match, forcing Wolf Pack (2-5-1) goalkeeper Devyn Bryar to make two early saves. ASU broke through at the 5:35 mark of the opening half, getting its first goal of the game from the team's leading goal scorer, freshman Aly Moon.

Arizona State's Cali Farquharson registered a hat trick in the match and scored back-to-back-to-back for the Sun Devils, recording her first of three in the 11th minute with an assist from Moon. Farquharson made quick work of her second score, tallying ASU's third goal of the contest just over a minute later. She again found the back of the net in the 17th minute, registering the hat trick with help from Mackenzie Semerad.

As the opening 45 minutes continued on, the Sun Devils kept up with their heavy offensive pressure and made it tough for the Wolf Pack to get its offense going. ASU put up its final goal of the contest late in the first half as Rachel Ometer scored unassisted in the 41st minute to put her team ahead by five heading into halftime.

Despite posting 12 shots in the second half of action, Bryar and the Wolf Pack defense held their ground and kept the Sun Devils off the score sheet. Junior forward Erin Saxton made a play on the ball in the 78th minute and tried to get the Pack on the board but was denied by Arizona State goalkeeper Ashley March.

For the game, ASU outshot the Pack by a 34-4 margin and did not allow Nevada any corner kick opportunities. Bryar tied her season-high by making 10 saves in the game.

Senior Chrisalyn Fonte, sophomore Katherine Davison and junior Daisha Jones-Oglesby were named to the all-tournament team.

Nevada will be back home at Mackay Stadium for its final non-conference match of the season this Friday, Sept. 19 at 5 p.m. as the Pack takes on UC Davis.
