PROVO, UTAH - The University of Nevada women's tennis team dropped its first of two matches on the road, falling to BYU by a score of 5-2.
The Wolf Pack (5-4) dropped its third straight match after the loss to the Cougars. Nevada was held winless in doubles play, and snatched only 2-of-6 singles matches to finish the day. Though it was a tough day out, head coach Guillaume Tonelli is hoping for a different result tomorrow against USF.
"The doubles point was a big battle where we just came up a little short," he said. "It was good to see that we performed well on the top two spots. It was a good effort and attitude today despite the loss, and we'll have to learn from today to come out stronger tomorrow."
Nevada was 0-for-2 in doubles play, with the third match going unfinished. The first singles victory came from Michelle Okhremchuk, as she downed Mayci Jones on court No. 1 by a score of 6-4, 6-1. With the win, Okhremchuk now has a total of 80 career singles victories at Nevada, only three victories shy of leader Tracy King (83). The other singles victory came from Sheila Morales Hidalgo, as she dropped Meg Sheehan-Dizon in an extended second set 6-2, 7-6(7-5).
Nevada will be in action again on Friday when it faces the USF Dons at 9 am.
