Nov. 9, 2014 PHOENIX, Ariz. - The University of Nevada men's tennis team ended their final day, at the 2014 Grand Canyon Invitational, with their heads up high. With three overall losses on the day, there was one championship victory that stuck out.
Moez Chargui shined all weekend on the court in singles action. He had been undefeated all weekend adding more and more singles vitories to his Nevada men's tennis all-time singles wins record. After yesterday's victory over UCI's Pham, Chargui was set to match up against teammate Andrew Poustie. At 9am this morning he and his teammate battled against each other. Chargui came up victorious over Poustie, by a score of 6-4, 7-6, becoming the champion of the tournament.
Fernando Sunago came into day three with a very successful day two. Sunago ended his day with a well deserved victory, defeating NAU's Lee, advancing him to the the slingles flight 2 bracket against ACU's Agritelley this morning. Unfortunately in his match against Agritelley, Sunago came up short, by a score of 2-6,7-5,11-9.
In doubles action, duo Poustie and Sunago had an undefeated day two placing them in the doubles championship match this morning. The went up against UCI's Pham and Hammel. Battling back and forth, Poustie and Sunago were overcome, by a close score of 8-5.
Mile Cilic won his single match today. He defeated ACU's Proctor, by a score of 7-6, 7-6. He is gaining more and more experience, and is developing very quickly, playing aside very tallented teammates.
The 2014 Grand Canyon Invitational was the final tournament for the Pack's fall season. The team finished their fall strong, making heads turn in the Mountain West Conference. They will start off their spring season in Eugene playing the Oregon Ducks on January 31, 2015.
