LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Junior Carly Simpson is tied for seventh after the first round of the Price's New Mexico State Invitational.

Simpson started the tournament strong with a one-under 71 in the first round. This is Simpson's lowest round of the season.

The rest of the team also had a solid first round. Senior Nikki Prichard, junior Caryn Khoo and freshman Celyn Khoo are all tied for 29th with a 2-over 74. Senior Bethany Wurster is tied for 51st.

Nevada as a team is tied for 6th with a five-over 293. Nevada also finished the first round in third in Par-4 scoring. Nevada has 12 birdies, with five coming from Prichard.

"We all played really well today," said head coach Kathleen Takaishi. "Carly played great, she had a few bogies coming in, but was able to keep her round together and finish well. As a team we had a lot of birdies and were able to eliminate the double bogeys."

Idaho is in first with a four-under 284 after day one. Grand Canyon's Charlotte Jaengkit is first individually with a 6-under 66.

The second 18-hole round will be on Tuesday.
