EL PASO, Texas. - The Nevada men's golf team jumped up to third place after the second round of the Price's Give 'Em Five invitational, hosted by UTEP.
Nevada fired off a 17-under 271 in the second round and had every player shoot at least two-under par. Nevada now sits with a 28-under 548 for the tournament, and is five shots behind first place heading into the final day.
Senior Nicholas Smits fired a two-under 70 in the second round and is tied for seventh with a nine-under 135 for the tournament. Freshman Jooho Lee is tied for 16th with a six-under 138 after shooting a three-under 69 in the second round. Freshman Grant Booth is tied for 21st after shooting a four-under 68, and sits at a five-under 139.
After a slow first round on Friday, freshman Corey Eddings came our strong shooting a career-low eight-under 64. Eddings' 64 was tied for the lowest score of the round. Eddings is tied for 24th with a four-under 140.
Junior Kit Carson shot a two-under 70 in the second round and is tied for 35th with a two-under 142.
"Today was a total team effort," said head coach Jacob Wilner. "Having all five guys shoot at least two under is awesome. Corey bouncing back with a great score was huge. Our mindset for tomorrow is exactly the same as it has been the last two days."
New Mexico State is in first with a 33-under 543. New Mexico State's Issac Merry is leading individually with a 14-under 130.
The final 18-hole round will be played on Sunday.
