EL PASO, Texas. - Senior Nicholas Smits is tied for second after the first round of the Price's Give 'Em Five invitational, hosted by UTEP.

Smits fired off three eagles and shot a career low seven-under 65 in the first round. He sits two strokes off the lead.

Freshman Jooho Lee is also in the top-20. Lee fired off a three-under 69 and is tied for 16th. Freshman Grant Booth is tied for 30th with a one-under 71.

Junior Kit Carson is tied for 40th with an even-par 72. Carson leads the tournament with 16 pars. Freshman Corey Eddings is tied for 72nd.

Nevada stated the tournament off hot, shooting an 11-under 277, and is fifth heading into the second round.

"Today was a great start," said head coach Jacob Wilner. "Smits making three eagles is something special. The weather tomorrow is again ideal for scoring and we hope to make a bunch of birdies."

UTSA is in first with a 21-under 267. New Mexico State's Issac Merry is leading individually with a nine-under 63.

The second 18-hole round will be played on Saturday.
