LUBBOCK, Texas - The University of Nevada fell 3-0 (18-25, 21-25, 15-25) to Cal State Fullerton on Friday, playing in its first match at the Lone Star Showdown hosted by Texas Tech.
The Wolf Pack fell to 1-6 with the loss, while Cal State Fullerton improved to 6-2 with the win.
Kara Kasser had a season high 13 digs, followed closely by Grace Anxo at 12. The defensive play of Nevada kept the match close, especially in game two, where Nevada collected 21 points. At the net, Nevada had 8.5 blocks, led by Anxo with 2.5 (one solo, three assisted).
Tessa Lea'ea led the Pack with nine kills on 24 attempts. Her hitting percentage for the day was .292, as she committed only two errors. While Lea'ea had a good positive percentage, it was not the best among Pack players. Sam Willoughby hit .312, with seven kills in 16 chances. She also committed only two errors.
The pair is now first and second in kills among Nevada players this season, with Lea'ea at 63 and Willoughby at 56.
Nevada will take on the host Red Raiders at 4:30 p.m. in its second match of the weekend.
