Final Stats
RENO, Nev. - In the last Mountain West dual match of the season on Sunday, the University of Nevada men's tennis team fell to No. 42 San Diego State by a final score of 4-3.
The Wolf Pack (9-12, 1-5 MW) jumped out to an early start on senior day, but could not overcome the Aztecs (18-7, 6-0MW). The Pack notched an early two wins in doubles play to snatch an early point, but closed the day with two victories. It was only fitting that the match deciding point came down to Nevada's lone senior Philip Hinojosa, as all eyes were on the match from court one. After a back and forth battle with Andranik Khachatryan that lasted three sets, Hinojosa fell by a score of 4-6, 6-1, 6-4.
"It was great to see Philip go out there and have a battle like that in his final Nevada home match," head coach Erik Burton said. "It was great to see and I think that it gave us a ton of confidence as we prepare for the Mountain West Championships."
The first singles victory of the day for the Wolf Pack came from position three where Andrew Poustie defeated Hunter Nicolas in straight sets 6-3, 7-6. The other victory came from Fernando Sunago, as he cruised past Marvin Tawasi 6-3, 6-2.
The Pack won two doubles matches to begin the day, the first from Hinojosa and Quentin Mege. They rolled past the pair of Derek Siddiqui and Shiva Sangwan by a score of 8-4. The other victory came from Victor Ouvrard and Robert Allan, as they powered past Khachatryan and Tawasi by a score of 8-6.
Nevada begins the Mountain West Championships on April 25, when it has a showdown with in-state rival UNLV at 2 p.m.
