CORPUS CHRISTI, Tex. - The University of Nevada men's tennis team earned six victories en route to a 5-2 victory on Thursday over Texas A&M Corpus Christi.
The Wolf Pack (4-3) got back in the win column against the Islanders (1-4) after having dropped its last two matches. Of the six victories, four came in singles action, led by freshman Robert Allan. His undefeated singles streak extends to seven, as he earned a tough victory over Guillaume Rauseo in three sets 6-4, 2-6, 6-3. Moez Echargui earned a victory of his own, as got past Matt Westmoreland in two extended sets 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-3). Fernando Sunago added a victory on the day, as he battled to a victory against Gergo Weidinger 6-4, 7-6 (7-5). The final singles victory came from Ryan Andrada, as he defeated Pietro Jordao in three sets 6-3, 5-7, 2-3, retired.
"Our guys played well, and could have played better, even with the tough conditions," head coach Erik Burton said. "It's tough going from the altitude in Reno to seven feet above sea level, but good teams overcome adversity and this team is doing that every day and every match so far this season."
The Wolf Pack also picked up two doubles victories to secure the doubles point, the first from the team of Fernando Sunago and Andrew Poustie. Together they defeated Weidinger and Rauseo by a score of 8-5. The point clinching victory came from Quentin Mege and Moez Echargui, as were able to push past the team of Andrew Maingot and Westmoreland by a score of 8-6.
The Wolf Pack is in action again on Friday at 12:30 P.M. PST against the University of Texas, San Antonio.
