RENO, Nev. - The University of Nevada (2-18, 0-8 MW) volleyball team lost a Mountain West home match in three sets by scores of 25-23, 25-19 and 25-13 to Utah State (12-7, 5-3 MW) at the Virginia Street Gym today. The loss dropped the Wolf Pack to 2-18 on the season and 0-8 in MW play. The Aggies improved to 12-7 and 5-3 in conference action. The loss was the 11th in a row for the Pack.
Nevada led the first set early 6-1 but the Aggies rallied to knot the score at 12. The set was tied six more times before USU won 25-23. In set two USU led 2-1 and did not trail the rest of the way to win 25-19. The Aggies took control of the third set leading 6-2 and went on to win 25-13 to take the match 3-0.
Pack sophomore Sam Willoughby posted a match-high 13 kills while freshman setter Lyndsey Anderson dished out 25 assists. Libero Kara Kasser had a match-high 13 digs.
Rachel Orr led the Aggies with 11 kills and 10 digs to post a double-double. Setter Paige Neves finished with 29 assists.
The Pack hit .118 in the match compared to .318 for USU. Nevada won the blocking battle 8-7.
Nevada plays its next two MW matches on the road. The Pack is at Air Force on Thursday and at New Mexico on Saturday. Both matches start at 6 p.m. PT.
