FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The University of Nevada baseball team fell 10-2 to the No. 3 Arkansas Razorbacks Wednesday.
The loss dropped Nevada to 10-9, while Arkansas improved to 20-2 (3-0 SEC).
Nevada jumped out ahead of its ranked opponent, leading 2-0 after the first inning. In the top of the first, the Wolf Pack was the benefit of two hit batsmen and a two-RBI single by Kewby Meyer. The freshman singled through the left side of the infield to score Brett Jones and Kyle Hunt.
The RBI's gave Meyer eight for the season.
Arkansas scored four times in the bottom of the second on two Pack errors, and did not relinquish its lead. The remaining Razorback runs came two at a time, as they scored twice in the third, fifth and eighth innings.
Nevada starter Troy Marks took the loss, falling to 0-2 on the season. He went two innings and gave up four hits and four ones, only one of which was earned.
Six other pitchers would toe the rubber for the Pack on Wednesday, with none going more than two innings. Jayson McClaren, Colby Blueberg and Sean Prihar saw action without allowing a run out of the bullpen. Carlos Escobar Jr. and Joe Kohan each had a hit in the game. Jones drew two walks and scored a run.
Arkansas starter Mark Reyes went only two innings and struck out three batters.
Nevada will take to the field next on Friday at 2 p.m., when it welcomes Loyola Marymount to Peccole Park for the first game of a three-game set.
