FRESNO, Calif. - Freshmen Nikki Prichard and Taylor Bickell led the Nevada women's golf team to a tie for third place at the Fresno State Lexus Classic on Tuesday.
Prichard and Bickell tied for seventh place individually at the event after each shot 10 over 226 for the 54-hole tournament. Bickell tied for the low round of the day as her even-par 72 vaulted her up to her first career top-10 finish. Junior Louise Yi was a shot back at 227 as she tied for 11th.
"It was just a good, consistent week for us," head coach Chad Spencer said. "We had a lot of scores from 72 to 77 and that's what it takes to finish the way we did. I am proud of those two freshmen - they came up big for us this week."
Cal State Fullerton won the event with a team score of 893. San Jose State was four shots back and Nevada tied with the host Fresno State at 910.
"We beat who we were supposed to beat and then we moved up and finished right there with Fresno and behind San Jose State so we have a good idea of what it's going to take when we get to the WAC Championships," Spencer said.
San Jose State's Madeleine Ziegert won medalist honors with a 1-under 215.
Nevada's contingent was rounded out with a tie for 22nd place by sophomore Joyce Chong and a tie for 63rd from senior Alex Borcherts.
The Wolf Pack will be back in action March 26-27 as it travels to the Anuenue Spring Break Classic at the Bay Course at Kapalua in Maui.
