RENO, Nev. - The University of Nevada has hired Darren Hiller to coach the offensive line for the Wolf Pack football team, head coach Chris Ault announced today.

A West Coast native, Hiller has been an offensive line coach for the past 17 seasons, including the last 10 at Arkansas State. While in Jonesboro, Hiller and the Red Wolves racked up a pair of conference championships, including a 10-2 record this past season and an appearance in the GoDaddy.com Bowl.

"The key to this hire was going to be experience," Ault said. "I wanted somebody who has been in the trenches and fought his way out. Darren has more than 15 years of experience as an O-Line coach. He has worked his way up the ladder and I feel he will be an excellent addition to lead the "Union." He comes very highly recommended and his background will bring some offensive exposures that will fit well with the Pistol. His California background and familiarity with Dallas lend itself to our extended recruiting priorities.

Hiller is originally from Fremont, Calif., and began his collegiate playing career at Chabot College in the Bay Area. He went on to West Texas A&M, where he was a team captain. He began his coaching career at West Texas A&M as a student assistant (1994-95) and then as a graduate assistant (1995-96). He then served as the school's offensive line coach from 1996-99 and also earned a Master's degree.

Hiller spent two seasons at Arkansas-Monticello before moving on to two seasons at Northwestern State University. Then began his highly successful run at Arkansas State, where he coached 16 All-Sun Belt Conference players, including an NFL Draft selection and five NFL free agents.

"I am extremely excited about the opportunity to get back to the West Coast and the chance to work for a coach like Chris Ault and with the great staff he has there," Hiller said. "This is a great opportunity to work at a place that has had so much success over the years and I'm ready to hit the ground running."
