The University of Nevada women's basketball team (5-16, 1-5 WAC) will close out its road trip against New Mexico State (4-17, 1-5 WAC) Saturday 2:30 p.m. PT. at the Pan American Center.
The Aggies lead the overall series with Nevada 20-14. New Mexico State defeated Nevada in their last meeting, 63-59 in Reno. Tahnee Robinson led all scorers with 24 points. Senior Tabytha Wampler leads New Mexico State with 13 ppg and 9.4 rpg. The Aggies are coming off a 79-54 defeat Thursday night to Fresno State and are on a four-game losing streak.
LAST?TIME?OUT
The University of Nevada women's basketball fell to Louisiana Tech 77-63 Thursday evening.
Louisiana Tech got out to a 14-8 lead over Nevada, hitting all six of their field goals attempts in the first five minutes. The Lady Techsters shot 64.5 percent from the field in the opening half while Nevada shot 35.3 percent. LA Tech built their biggest lead of the half to 18 points with production down low. The Lady Techsters scored 26 points in the paint to 14 by Nevada. LA Tech's Shantale Bramble-Donaldson's 14 points led the Lady Techsters to a 48-31 halftime lead. Amanda Johnson led Nevada in the half with seven points.
The Lady Techsters increased their lead to 20 points out of the break before Nevada responded to close the gap. The Pack cut LA Tech's lead to 11 points on a jump shot by Chanelle Brennan at the 14:19 mark. LA Tech answered back by getting the ball inside to extend their lead to 19 with nine minutes remaining. Nevada had one last charge in them, battling back to get within 10 points of LA Tech with 2:39 left to go. The Lady Techsters tightened up defensively and didn't allow the Pack to get any closer, winning the game 77-63.
Chanelle Brennan led Nevada with a game high 17 points and eight rebounds. Shantale Bramble-Donalson finished with 16 points for LA Tech.
BRENNAN?STEPS?UP
Guard Chanelle Brennan has stepped up in her expanded role this year. The Junior transfer has scored in double-figures in eight straight games for Nevada, leading the team with a game high 17 points in the LA Tech loss. Brennan recorded a career high 20 points in the loss to Hawai`i. In the overtime loss against Long Beach State, Brennan collected her first career double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. The junior transfer has appeared in all 21 games for the Pack, starting in 12.
AMANDA THE ASSISTS?MACHINE
Senior Amanda Johnson is quickly climbing Nevada's career assists list. The guard currently sits at fifth place on the program's career assists list at 341. Johnson passed Angie Heer (1997-01) for fifth all-time with four assists in the San Jose State loss. The senior needs 13 more to tie Traci Graham (2003-07) for fourth best. Johnson's 84 assists this season is good for third best in the conference. Johnson is averaging 4 assists per game.
WILLIAMS BACK?ON?THE?PROWL
After missing four games to recover from surgery on a burst cyst, Senior Kayla Williams returned to action against Louisiana Tech. Williams shot 50 percent from the field and finished with nine points and four rebounds after battling foul trouble.
KEVORKEN NAMED TO CAPITAL ONE ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRCT 8 TEAM
Kate Kevorken has excelled on the court and in the classroom this season. The senior who is majoring in Community Health Sciences is carrying a 3.86 cumulative gpa and was named to the Capital One Academic All-District 8 team this week.
CLOSE?GAMES?FOR?THE?PACK?
Although Nevada is 5-16 on the year, 12 of the games have been decided by 10 points or less. The Pack is 4-8 in those games, defeating Idaho 76-70 (6), CSU Bakersfield 85-76 (9), Oregon 76-74 (2) and Butler 71-69 (2) in the Nugget Classic. Nevada is 2-4 in games decided by 5 points or less, losing to Mississippi State in the Peppermill Holiday Classic consolation game 67-63 (4).
CAPTAIN KATE LEADS THE TEAM
Senior captain Kate Kevorken has been a constant presence for Nevada on the offensive end this season. The forward has led Nevada in scoring in 12 of its 21 games, pitching in 25 points in the loss to San Jose State. Kevorken's 16.6 ppg average is good for third best in the WAC. Her 44 made three-pointers puts Kevorken in second place in the WAC, averaging 2.10 made 3fg per game.

Forward Kayla Williams leads the WAC individual statistical category for blocks with 35.
BLOCK PARTY FOR THE PACK
Nevada's 93 rejections on the year puts them in second place in that team WAC category. The Pack is averaging 4.43 blocks per game as a team. In the CSU Bakersfield win Kayla Williams recorded six blocks in the game which is third best in the program's history.
