Final Stats

HONOLULU, Hawaii -

The University of Nevada women's basketball team ended its final regular season road trip with a 72-68 loss to Hawai`i Saturday evening.

With the loss, Nevada drops to (5-22, 1-11 WAC) on the season, while Hawai`i improves to (11-16, 6-6 WAC).

A jumper by Kayla Williams and a three pointer by Kate Kevorken gave Nevada an early 5-2 lead. Vicky Tagalicod's jump shot at the 9:29 mark put Hawai`i up 14-9. Danika Sharp poured in six straight points for Nevada to put the team ahead 15-14. Kanisha Bello led the Rainbow Wahine to a 9-4 run, giving Hawai'i its biggest lead of the half at six points with five minutes left. Chanelle Brennan and Amanda Johnson finished the half strong for Nevada, leading the team with seven and five points respectively to tie the score at halftime 32-32.

Sharp continued her strong play in the second half, scoring eight points in the early minutes to help Nevada to a 53-46 lead. A four point play by Kanisha Bello started a 12-0 Hawai`i run to give her team a 58-53 lead. Danika Sharp's three point basket with four minutes to go ended an eight minute Nevada drought to get the Pack within four at 60-56. The Rainbow Wahine responded with a three point shot by Bello and a layup by Tagalicod to extend their lead to nine. A Kevorken three and consecutive shots at the free throw line by Arielle Wideman cut the Hawai`i lead to four. That would be the closest Nevada would get as the Rainbow Wahine hit their free throws down the stretch to win the game 72-68.

Danika Sharp led all scorers with 20 points. Chanelle Brennan added 14 points.

Nevada will return home for a pair of games to close out the regular season, starting with a Thursday afternoon match up with New Mexico State at 12 p.m. Nevada's final game of the regular season will take place Saturday at 4 p.m. against Louisiana Tech.
