The University of Nevada women's basketball team fell to Hawai`i 72-63 Thursday evening. The loss snapped an eight game win streak the Wolf Pack had over the Rainbow Wahine.
With the loss, Nevada drops to (5-14, 1-3 WAC) on the season, while Hawai`i improves to (8-11, 3-1 WAC).
The Wolf Pack raced out to a 7-0 lead to start the game. Hawai`i got hot from behind the arc, hitting three straight three-pointers to take their first lead of 17-15 at the 7:27 mark. The Rainbow Wahine built on their lead to an eight point advantage by getting the ball down low. Hawai`i scored 14 points in the paint to Nevada's six. Chanelle Brennan led Nevada in the opening half with seven points. The guard hit a three-pointer in the closing seconds to bring Nevada within three, with a score of 27-24 at halftime.
The Wolf Pack looked sharp out of the intermission, going on a 13-6 run to begin the half and reclaim the lead. Hawai`i got back out in front by nine points with 10 minutes to go in the game. The Pack struggled to contain the Rainbow Wahine's offense as they shot 77.3 percent from the field in the second half. Nevada fought back to get within four points of Hawai`i on a three-point shot by Danika Sharp at the 8:09 mark. That would be the closest Nevada would get to Hawai`I, as the Rainbow Wahine held off the Pack to take a 72-63 win and their third straight conference victory.
Chanelle Brennan recorded a career high 20 points for Nevada, with a team high seven rebounds. Kate Kevorken also scored in double figures, finishing with 16 points.
Nevada will remain home to face San Jose State Saturday 2:00 p.m. at Lawlor Events Center.
