BERKELEY, Calif. - The University of Nevada (1-7) lost its first match at the Hilton Garden Inn Classic Friday afternoon to Sacramento State (4-3) by scores of 25-19, 23-25, 27-25 and 26-24. With the loss the Wolf Pack stand at 1-7 on the season while the Hornets improved to 4-3.

Set one was tied at 15-15 before the Hornets took control and won 25-19. Nevada struggled offensively hitting .054 while Sacramento State hit .216.

Nevada led most of set two and escaped with the two-point victory 25-23 to even the match at one set apiece. The Pack hit .159 and held the Hornets to a .079 attack percentage.

There were five ties and four lead changes in set three before Sac State won 27-25. Nevada led 25-24 but the Hornets ended the set with a 3-0 run. Both teams improved their hitting percentage in the set with the Wolf Pack posting a .200 attack percentage and Sac State hitting .244.

The final set was tied nine times and once again took some extra play to decide before the Hornets won 26-24 to take the match 3-1. The Pack hit just .020 and Sac State hit .184.

Junior outside hitter Elissa Ji led four Pack players in double figures with 13 kills and added 12 digs to post her second double-double of the season. Janelle Batista (12), Tessa Lea'ea (11) and Erin Garvey (11) also reached double figures.


Setter Tatiana Santiago recorder her fourth double-double of the season with 48 assists and 13 digs. Brianna Heinen had a career-high 20 digs in the match. Kelly Chang and Grace Anxo contributed 17 and 15 digs respectively.

Eryn Kirby and Janelle Currey had 18 and 13 kills for the Hornets. Anna Schoener topped Sac State with 24 assists. Breanne Menees was one of four Sac State players who had double figures in digs with her match-high 27.

Nevada hit .113 in the match and Sac State .183. The Hornets had 11 blocks compared to 8.5 for the Wolf Pack.

The Pack plays topped ranked Cal tonight at 7:30 p.m.
