RENO, Nev. - The University of Nevada women's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to the No. 17 Santa Clara Broncos Thursday.

Nevada fell to 2-10 with the loss, while Santa Clara moved to 6-1-4.

Santa Clara jumped out to an early lead and never relinquished it, as Julie Johnston scored the eventual game winner in the fourth minute.

Making her 72nd career start for Nevada against the Broncos, Annabelle Allen tied Jessica Thompson for fourth all time. Allen is now five starts away from tying the all-time record, held by three players. In total, 22 players saw the field for Nevada Thursday, a season high in 2011.

Nevada attempted nine shots, getting six on target and forcing Santa Clara goalkeeper Molly Mettler into a number of difficult stops.

The Wolf Pack attempted one corner kick in the second half and committed one foul. Santa Clara was whistled for three infractions.

Jenna Riddle earned the start for the Pack and played 45 minutes in goal, making three saves. She was relieved by Dana Moreno at the start of the second frame. Moreno made six saves in the second half.

Nevada will open the Western Athletic Conference season in its next match, taking on Hawai'i in Honolulu on Sunday at 8 p.m. Nevada was 2-5-1 in the WAC last season, including a 2-1 win against the Rainbow Wahine at Mackay Stadium on the season's final night.
