RENO, Nev. - The University of Nevada women's soccer team fell 1-0 to the UC Davis Aggies Sunday at Mackay Stadium.
The loss dropped the Wolf Pack to 2-9, while UC Davis improved to 6-3.
After an early goal from UC Davis, Nevada fought hard for the remainder of the contest but was unable to get the tying tally.
"I was happy with the way we implemented our halftime adjustments," head coach Dr. Melissa Price said. "Our execution in the final third of play just wasn't what we would like it to be."
The only goal of the match came from Allison Kelly in the fourth minute. She took a pass from Ashley Edwards just outside the 18-yard box and shot high over the outstretched arms of Nevada keeper Jenna Riddle.
In a format that has become customary over the last three matches, Riddle started the game and played the first half, with Dana Moreno coming in at halftime and playing until the conclusion of the match.
Nevada earned eight corner kicks, including four in the second half and two in the final 15 minutes. As the clock ticked closer to zero, the Pack put sustained pressure on UC Davis, including a good scoring chance for Devon Eckberg inside the final minute. Taking a ball in from the midfield, Eckberg was unable to get a clean shot off before colliding with Aggie keeper Maria Magana.
The Pack took seven shots on goal, forcing Magana to make five saves, including two of the diving variety.
Price was happy with the way her team competed after giving up the early goal.
"We played well for a good majority of the match and I am happy with the way we are competing as we get closer to the start of conference play."
After a weekday meeting with Santa Clara, the upcoming weekend will mark the beginning of the Western Athletic Conference season for the Pack. It will meet Hawai'i, Sunday in Honolulu at 8 p.m.
Nevada will then return home Friday, October 7 at 7 p.m. to take on Louisiana Tech.
