PORTLAND - The University of Nevada (0-5) lost a tough three set match Friday night to Butler (1-5) at the Portland Nike Invitational falling by scores of 25-21, 29-27 and 27-25. In the three set there were 29 ties, 20 lead changes and twice extra play was need to determine a winner.


With the loss the Wolf Pack is now 0-5 on the season while the Bulldogs won for the first time to improve to 1-5. It was the second loss of the day for the Pack after falling 3-0 to Washington State this morning.


Set one was tied for the ninth time at 15-15 but BU closed out the set with a 10-6 run to win 25-21. Nevada hit .083 and the Bulldogs .182 in the set.


There were 13 ties and nine lead changes in set two before extra play decided the set in favor of the Bulldogs 29-27. Nevada led 25-24 but were unable to get set point and BU outscored the Pack 5-2 to take a 2-0 lead in the match. The Wolf Pack hit .136 and the Bulldogs .222 in the second set.


Nevada again served for set point in the final set at 24-23 but a rally by Butler gave them the 27-25 set victory and 3-0 match win. The Pack hit .070 in the third set and the Bulldogs zero.


Two Pack players recorded double-doubles in the match as Grace Anxo totaled 10 kills and 12 digs. Setter Tatiana Santiago dished out 24 assists and finished with 13 digs. Libero Kelly Chang had a career and match-high 21 digs.


Maureen Bamiro led BU with 10 kills and added 12 digs to post a double-double. Setter Gina Vera posted a match-high 30 kills. Kelly Kyle and Brooke Ruffolo had 16 digs each.


Nevada hit .067 in the match and BU .161. The Pack had eight blocks compared to seven for the Bulldogs. Tessa Lea`ea led Nevada with four blocks in the match and Maggie Harbison had four for Butler.


Nevada plays Texas A&M at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday and concluded play in the invitational at 7:30 p.m. versus Portland.
