RENO, Nev. - The University of Nevada women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to the Portland State Vikings in its first game of the Wolf Pack Invitational.
The loss dropped Nevada to 1-4, while Portland State moved to 3-2.
The Wolf Pack and the Vikings played a back-and-forth first half, with Nevada attempting four shots and Portland State getting five attempts. Scoreless at the break, Nevada went into halftime with confidence.
In the second frame, the Vikings came out strong, outshooting Nevada 5-2 overall, with two shots from distance doing particular damage.
In the 52nd minute, Megan Martin put a left-footed strike in the back of the net from nearly 20 yards. The left-footed shot sailed into the upper half of the net and was assisted by Melissa Trammell. Two minutes later, Portland State's Carlie Martin scored from 25 yards out to put Portland State ahead 2-0.
Kori Disarufino led Nevada with two shot attempts, getting one on goal to tie for the Nevada game high as well. She scored Nevada's last goal, the game winner at Utah, and had moments of strong play in the Nevada attack again against the Vikings.
Annabelle Allen, Danielle Green and Lauren Braman each played the full 90 minutes for Nevada, with Green attemptin one shot. Her bending free kick found the target and gave Portland State keeper Melissa Ferguson some trouble before she hauled it in.
Jenna Riddle started for the Pack, making 7 saves and playing the full 90 minutes.
Nevada will return to action Sunday, meeting UNLV in the final game of the tournament at 2 p.m. Portland State will take on Detroit earlier in the day on Sunday, at 11 a.m.
