PULLMAN, Wash. - The Nevada women's golf team weathered high winds on Monday morning and then came back with a strong afternoon performance and is sitting in a tie for fifth after the first two rounds of the WSU Cougar Cup.

With winds howling up to 30 mph during the first round in the morning, Nevada was able to put up a 314 as a team. As the conditions settled in the afternoon at Palouse Ridge Golf Course, the Pack went low with a 304 and finds itself in a good position heading into the final round on Tuesday.

"I was proud of them because they hung in there in the morning and held it together," second-year coach Chad Spencer said. "We are able to put a strong round together in the afternoon and we're right in the mix of it with the exception of Washington."

Washington is running away with the team competition at 594 through two rounds. But Nevada, along with tournament host Washington State, is just nine shots back of second place (Oregon State, 609), with a team score of 618.

Individually, Jamie Yam fired 78-73 and is tied for sixth place heading into the final round. Louise Yi and freshman Taylor Bickell are four shots back of Yam at 155 and are tied in 23rd place with freshman Nikki Prichard in 31st place at 157 after two rounds.

The final round at Palouse Ridge will be played Tuesday.
