MONTEREY, Calif. -- The Nevada men's golf team went low on?Monday afternoon at Black?Horse Golf Course and is in sixth place heading into the final round of the Saint Mary's Invitational.

The Wolf Pack shot a 306 in the first round Monday morning at Bayonet Golf Course and then put up a team 1 over par 289 in the second round at Black Horse to move up to sixth. The final round of the tournament will be Tuesday.

Nevada took four freshman -- one competing as an individial -- a sophomore and a senior to the tournament. The lone upperclassman, Kevin?Lucas, led the way with a 5 over 149 in the first two round. But freshman Gustavo Chuang, making his collegiate debut, hung right with Lucas at 149 in the first two rounds.

Freshman Taylor Knoll followed up a strong debut last week with a 150 on?Monday and he's a shot back of Lucas and Chuange, tied for 30th. His brother, sophomore Brian?Knoll, is tied for 39th along with freshman Andrew Cornella at 8 over. Cornella is also competing in his first collegiate event and is doing so as an individual. Freshman Zak Griffiths shot a 75 in the morning but struggled at Black?Horse with an 82 and is tied for 59th at 157.

"The guys got off to a slow start today on a tough course but showed great resilience In the second round," said coach Jacob Wilner. "We are looking forward to the final round tomorrow."

Oregon has a nine-shot lead in the team event at a combined 9 under after two rounds. UAB is second at even par and USF leads a group clustered between third place -- the Dons at 12 over -- and seventh place (Xavier, 21 over).
