SAN DIEGO - The University of Nevada (0-2) volleyball team lost in four sets to UC Irvine (1-1) at the Aztec Invitational in San Diego Saturday morning. The Wolf Pack lost by scores of 14-25, 26-24, 25-27 and 18-25 to fall to 0-2 on the season. The Anteaters evened their season mark at 1-1.

UCI scored the first four points of the first set on the way to the 25-14 victory. The Pack hit just .037 in the set and the Anteaters .200.

There were five ties and one lead change in the second set before the Pack prevailed 26-24. With the scored tied at 24-24 Nevada got kills from sophomore outside hitter Grace Anxo and senior setter Tatiana Santiago to close out the set. Nevada hit .209 and UCI .140 in the set.

Set three went back and forth with nine ties and two lead changes before the Anteaters escaped with the 27-25 victory to take a 2-1 lead in the match. The Pack continued to struggle offensively hitting .079 compared to .189 for UCI.

In the fourth set UCI scored seven unanswered points to break a 12-12 tie on the way to the 25-18 win and 3-1 match victory. The Pack hit .152 in the final set and the Anteaters .294.

Anxo led the Pack with 11 kills and added 10 digs to record a double-double. Senior right side hitter Erin Garvey contributed 10 kills. Santiago also posted a double-double with 31 assists and 14 digs. Junior libero Kelly Chang tied Santiago for team-high honors with 14 digs.

Aly Squires finished with match-highs in kills with 21 and 17 digs to record a double-double for UCI. Marisa Bubica added 11 digs for the Anteaters. Setter Mary Carls had a double-double with 36 assists and 11 digs. Kristin Winkler also reached double figures with 15 digs in the match.

Nevada hit .128 in the match and UCI .201. The Anteaters totaled 10 blocks and the Pack nine. Garvey's four blocks led the Wolf Pack and Squires had five for UCI.

Nevada concludes the opening weekend of play against San Diego State tonight at 7:00 p.m.
