Nevada Opens 2011 Season At Aztec Invitational
The University of Nevada volleyball team under the direction of first-year head coach Ruth Lawanson opens the 2011 season this weekend competing in the Aztec Invitational in San Diego. Friday the Wolf Pack takes on Portland at 5 p.m. Saturday the Pack plays UC?Irvine at 10 a.m. and concludes the opening weekend versus the host San Diego State Aztecs at 7 p.m.

WOLF PACK BITS
- Nevada returns four starters from last year's team in Erin Garvey, Janelle Batista, Grace Anxo and Tatiana Santiago.
- The Wolf Pack squad is comprised of three seniors, three juniors, four sophomore, a redshirt freshman and two true freshmen.
- Returning are 10 letterwinners from the 2010 squad that went 13-17 overall and 7-9 in WAC play.
- Garvey earned second team All-WAC honors in 2010, while Anxo was named to the WAC All-Freshman Team.
- The Pack opens the 2011 season playing in three road tournaments.
- Nevada will be under the direction of first-year head coach Ruth Lawanson.
- Nevada will need to replace two All-WAC performers in Lindsay Baldwin (first team) and Kylie Harrington (second team).
- Santiago led the WAC averaging 11.69 assists per set in conference action and her 10.38 overall ranked fourth in the conference. Santiago finished the season with 1,162 assists, which is the 10th-best season in Pack history. Meanwhile, her 1,772 career assists ranks ninth all-time at Nevada.
- Kelly Chang, Elissa Ji, Brittni Yates, Garvey and Anxo earned All-WAC academic honors last season.
- Nevada was picked to finish sixth in the preseason coaches' poll.
- The Wolf Pack will play three tournaments away from Reno before hosting UNLV on Sept. 21 at the Virginia Street Gym.
- Nevada will play just nine home matches this season.-
