RENO, Nev. - The University of Nevada women's tennis team opened a big weekend with a WAC win over New Mexico State, 5-2 at Caughlin Club Friday.

The win moved Nevada to 6-9 (2-1 WAC), while NMSU dropped to 9-6 (1-2 WAC).

The Wolf Pack got off to a quick start, winning two of the three doubles matches to jump out to an early 1-0 lead.

"We won because of our team spirit," head coach Sylvain Malroux said. "It really was a team effort, that's why we came out on top."

Playing at the No. 6 singles position, freshman Gabriela Eufrasio clinched the match with her 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 victory over Ros-Polly Nguyn.

"She fought so hard," Malroux said. "It was really great to see her get the win."

Nevada will take on Sonoma State Saturday at 10 a.m. and No. 57 Boise State Sunday at the same time.  Both matches will be played at Caughlin Club.
