SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Senior Scott Smith carded a final-round 71 and led Nevada to a tie for fifth place at the 20-team Cowboy Classic on Tuesday.
Nevada shot a 289 as a team in the final round and tied with Colorado for fifth place at 854. Baylor won the event with an 836, followed by Arizona (839), Colorado State (841) and UC Davis (843).
Smith tied for 15th individually for the Wolf Pack. Andrew Augustyniak also shot 71 on Tuesday and was two shots back of Smith, tied for 23rd. Kevin Lucas (73) tied for 30th to give Nevada three players in the top 30. Gavin Kwon (T-71st) and Chris Cho (T-81st) each shot 74 in the final round.
The tournament, while played in Arizona, was hosted by Wyoming.
Nevada will return to action April 15-16 at the Cougar Classic, hosted by BYU at Riverside Country Club in Provo, Utah. That will mark the Pack’s final tune-up before the WAC Championships.
