RENO, Nev. - The University of Nevada soccer program announced its 2011 schedule Tuesday.
The Wolf Pack's season opener will be a meeting with Pacific, Fri., August 19 in Stockton, Calif. Its first home match will be Fri., September 2 against Portland State.
That contest will be the first in the Wolf Pack Invitational, a tournament that will welcome the Vikings, as well as UNLV and Detroit to Reno.
"We start off away against some good programs and have UNLV in our first home weekend," head coach Dr. Melissa Price said. "We are facing some new opponents as well as some yearly rivals."
The Pack boasts nine home games in 2011, including match-ups with UC Davis and Sacramento State in the non-conference.
As well as those home match-ups outside of the conference schedule, Nevada will take on a perennial power in Penn State, August 21 at West Valley College in Saratoga, Calif. The Nittany Lions won their 13th consecutive Big 10 title last season and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Within the Western Athletic Conference, Nevada will open on the road against Hawai'i, Sun., October 2. Its first home conference tilt will be against Louisiana Tech, Fri., October 7.
"We are looking forward to the fall with a renewed purpose and each game will bring a different set of challenges and opportunities," Price said.
This year's WAC Tournament will be held in Fresno, Calif., from November 3-6.
