PROVO, Utah. – The University of Nevada men’s golf team is seventh after the first two rounds of the Ping Golf Cougar Classic hosted by BYU at Riverside Country Club on Friday.
Senior Scott Smith fired rounds of 72 and 69 and sits tied for seventh at 3 under after 36 holes. He led a Nevada contingent that combined to shoot just 3 over in the first two rounds. Nevada shot a 1 under 287 in the first round and then put up a 4 over 292 in round two.
Andrew Augustyniak shot 71-73 and is tied for 17th at even par. Kevin Lucas carded a 72 in the first round and then a 74 and is tied for 30th. Chris Cho is tied for 46th after rounds of 72 and 76 while Gavin Kwon shot 76 and 78 and its tied for 84th.
Kevin Penner of UNLV is at 9 under for the tournament and leads the individual race.
UNLV leads the team standings at 565. Colorado Stat and Pacific are tied for second, seven strokes back while UC Davis and Washington State are tied for fourth at 575. Idaho is sixth, one shot ahead of Nevada at 578.
There are 18 teams competing in the event with the final round scheduled for Saturday.
