RENO, Nev. - The University of Nevada women's tennis team defeated Utah State 6-1 in a WAC match Friday, on senior day at Caughlin Club.
The win was Nevada's fourth in a row, moving them to 9-9 (4-1 WAC) overall
"I am so pleased with the way the team has come together in the past month or so," head coach Sylvain Malroux said. "Sure, beating Boise last week was big, but we didn't overlook this team and that is great."
Nevada came out firing on all cylinders, winning each of the first three doubles matches by scores of 8-2, 8-5 and 8-3.
The Pack continued its domination over the Aggies with five singles wins, two of which were in decided fashion.
At position No. 3 Emma Verberne dropped only one game, the second game of the first set, en route to a 6-1, 6-0 victory. She was matched by one of the three players to compete in her last home match as a member of the Pack, Aodhnait Lombard, who won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4.
Nevada's other graduating seniors, Florence De Vrye and Lais Ogata, also earned victories on the day. De Vrye won at No. 3 doubles, teaming with Lombard to get the win. Ogata was a part of Nevada's victory at No. 1 doubles and defeated Hailey Swenson 7-6 (10-8), 6-3 at No. 2 singles.
Nevada will take on Pacific, Sunday at 1 p.m. in Stockton, Calif., in its next action.
