SERIES HISTORY: The Aggies lead the series 17-15.  Nevada won the first meeting 90-71 on Jan. 20 in Reno.  The  Wolf Pack has won three of the last five and is 7-3 in the last 10 meetings.  The Pack has won the last two games in Lac Cruces and are  4-10 all-time at NMSU.
UP NEXT: Nevada will compete in the WAC Tournament being played at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas next week, Mar. 9-12.

Burton's Career-High 24 Leads Pack To 73-70 Victory At Louisiana Tech — 
RUSTON, La. (AP) - Deonte Burton scored 24 points as Nevada held on to defeat Louisiana Tech 73-70 on Thursday night.
    The Wolf Pack (12-17, 8-7 Western Athletic Conference) led 63-54 with 3:42 left to play, but a 16-8 run, capped by a Lonnie Smith 3-pointer with six seconds on the clock, pulled the Bulldogs to 71-70.
    Louisiana Tech (12-19, 2-13) failed to get off another shot attempt after Cordarius Johnson turned it over with two seconds to go.
    Malik Story added 15 points, Dario Hunt had 13 and Olek Czyz 12 for Nevada, which scored 29 points off 26 turnovers.
    Kenyon McNeaill scored 21 points for the Bulldogs, who scored only seven points off 13 Wolf Pack miscues. C.J. Scott added 16 points and Smith finished with 12.
    Louisiana Tech shot 56.8 percent from the floor (25 of 44), outrebounded Nevada 36-24 and posted a 30-24 scoring edge in the paint.

THE FIRST MEETING WITH NEW MEXICO STATE -
JAN 20 - WOLF PACK 90, AGGIES 71— RENO, Nev. (AP) - Deonte Burton scored 22 points to lead five Nevada players in double digits as part of a 90-71 win over New Mexico State.
    The Wolf Pack (6-13, 3-3 WAC) led 43-36 at halftime and never trailed after that.
    Dario Hunt picked up a double-double for Nevada with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Olek Czyz added 15 points, Malik Story 10 and Derrell Conner 10 for the Wolf Pack.
    Troy Gillenwater led the Aggies (10-10, 4-2) with 22 points while Hernst Laroche chipped in with 11. 
    Nevada outrebounded the Aggies 42-29 while New Mexico State's bench outscored the Wolf Pack's 23-16.

PACK SEEK FOURTH SEED AND A BYE -
With one day remaining in the WAC regular season, six teams are battling for seeding for next week’s conference tournament to be played at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Mar. 9-12.  Utah State and Boise State are locked in as the top two seeds. 
    Nevada would earned the fourth seed with a victory over New Mexico State and first round bye.  The Aggies would earn the third seed with a win over the Wolf Pack.  If the Pack fall to NMSU they would be seeded sixth and play on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.

Notes following Thursday’s Louisiana Tech game

Nevada improved to 12-17 on the season and 8-7 in Western Athletic Conference play after defeating Louisiana Tech (12-19, 2-13 WAC) 73-70 on Thursday night in Ruston, La.  

The Wolf Pack is now 9-2 in games played in Ruston, La.

The Pack improved to 3-9 on the road games and 3-12 away from Lawlor Events Center.

Nevada snapped a three-game WAC losing skid with the victory at LA Tech.

The Wolf Pack won both games this season from LA Tech, taking the earlier contest 66-58 on Jan. 22 at home.

Freshman point guard Deonte Burton scored a career and game-high 24 points.  It was Burton’s 22nd double figure scoring game of the season, ninth time he led the Pack in scoring and fourth time he posted a game-high. 

Burton made a career-high four, 3-pointers in five attempts.

Burton led the Pack in scoring for the ninth time which is second to Hunt’s 11.  It was his fifth 20-point game which is second to Hunt’s six.

Sophomore guard Malik Story reached double figures for the 23rd time finishing with 15.  The 23 double digit scoring games leads the team.

Junior’s Dario Hunt and Olek Czyz also scored in double figures with 13 and 12, respectively.  It was Hunt’s 19th double figure game of the season and Czyz’s 13th.

Czyz led the Pack in rebounding for the fourth time this season grabbing six at LA Tech.

Four-of-five starters scored in double figures at LA Tech, Burton (24), Story (15), Hunt (13) and Czyz (12).

Story’s eight free throws made is a career-high. 

LA Tech outrebounded Nevada by 12, 36-24 which the second largest rebounding deficit of the season.  It is the third time the Pack have been outrebounded by 10 or more and the first since the Dec. 22 at Washington when the Huskies held a 14 rebound advantage, 56-42 which was the high of the season.

Nevada forced a season-high 26 turnovers.
