RENO, Nev. -The University of Nevada women's basketball team will host the University of Hawai'i Saturday night at Lawlor Events Center at 7 p.m. The 16-7 (5-5 WAC) Wolf Pack will play Hawai'i 8-15 (2-8 WAC) for the second time this year, having collected a 75-62 victory on Jan. 31 in Honolulu.
With the win this year, Nevada improves but still trails 14-22 in the all-time series. Overall, Nevada is 8-10 in Reno, 5-11 on the islands and 1-1 on a neutral court. The Pack has won six straight and nine of the last 11 against Hawai'i.
Senior Tahnee Robinson is currently 12th in the nation in scoring with her 21 points per game. Robinson also ranks in the top 60 in the nation for free-throw percentage at 85.0 percent (34th), three-point field goal percentage at 40.7 percent (37th) and three-point field goals per game with 2.8 (24th).
Other Wolf Pack athletes leading the NCAA include Amanda Johnson and Shavon Moore. Johnson ranks 91st in the nation in assist-turnover ratio (1.55) and 72nd for assists per game (4.5). Moore's 8.7 rebounds per game ranks 74th in the nation, while her 49.8 field goal percentage rank 61st in the nation.
As a team, Nevada ranks in the top 80 of 333 Division I institutions in six categories. The Wolf Pack is 23rd in rebound margin (7.1), 46th in field goal percentage (43.0), 61st in won/lost percentage (69.6), 71st in field goal percentage defense (37.1 77th in scoring offense (68.6) and 79th in three-point field goal percentage (33.5).
The game will serve as the Pack's annual pink game as it will work to raise awareness and funds for the Kay Yow WBCA Cancer Fund and Susan G. Komen for the Cure. The event has become an annual charitable effort for Nevada who will wear pink jerseys in honor of the cause.
Nevada will be working to support the Kay Yow Foundation and Susan G. Komen for the Cure to help fight breast cancer. Kay Yow was the head coach at NC State who was a prominent figure for her fight against breast cancer, which she lost a year and a half ago. There will be a pink treadmill walk-a-thon and sales of the book of Yow's story, Leader of the Pack, during the game to help raise funds for the organizations. Copies of the book authored by Stephanie Zonars are being donated by Nevada's head coach Jane Albright.
