RENO, Nev. — Wolf Pack volleyball head coach Devin Scruggs will move into a position in the University of Nevada’s academics and compliance department, Nevada Director of Athletics Cary Groth said.

“We feel it is in the best interests of the Wolf Pack volleyball program to move in a different direction,” Groth said. “We appreciate everything that Devin Scruggs has done for the Wolf Pack volleyball program.  We feel Devin has a lot of skills to offer, and we are happy that she has accepted this opportunity to work in an administrative area where we need additional resources.”

Scruggs recently finished her 14th season as Nevada’s head coach. During her tenure, she led the Wolf Pack to five NCAA Tournament appearances with the most recent postseason bid coming in 2005. Scruggs coached 37 all-conference selections and led Nevada to eight winning seasons in 14 years. Last year, Nevada finished with a 13-17 overall record, its third consecutive losing season, and fell in the first round of the Western Athletic Conference Tournament for the third straight year.

Assistant coach Ruth Lawanson will take over as Nevada’s interim head volleyball coach effective immediately.

“I am excited to take this opportunity to learn the administrative side of athletics,” Scruggs said. “I leave this program in excellent hands and in a good place. The improvements made last year and the direction the program is headed will be exciting to see in the future. Ruth is a fantastic coach and I wish her all the best.”
