The University of Nevada women's basketball team began a three game road trip with an 80-73 loss to Portland State Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, Nevada drops to 2-5 on the season, while Portland State improves to 3-3.
The Wolf Pack had a difficult time taking care of the ball to begin the game, committing a total of 17 turnovers in the first half. Portland State used Nevada's mistakes to get out to a 15 point lead by the seven minute mark. Despite early turnovers, Nevada stayed close by holding a rebounding advantage over the Vikings 19-16, cutting their lead to nine points entering halftime.
Nevada came out of the break looking to score inside. Kayla Williams found room to operate on the block, collecting her 16th career double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Kate Kevorken came alive in the second half, knocking down long range attempts and getting to the free throw to keep the Pack in the game. Nevada got into striking distance down by three with two minutes to go on a lay up by Chanelle Brennan. Portland State answered back with a three pointer in the ensuing possession and closed out the game converting on their free throws.
The team will close out its three game road trip with two stops in southern California next week. Nevada will face Long Beach State Thursday and Cal State Fullerton on Saturday
