The University of Nevada pulled of a convincing victory in an exhibition game against Notre Dame de Namur Wednesday night. Nevada defeated the Argonauts 73-46 in front of 736 fans at Lawlor Events center in its first performance of the season.
The Wolf Pack shot 48.1 percent from the field, hitting 5-12 from 3-point range. Nevada out-rebounded the Argonauts 45-28 and took advantage of Notre Dame de Namur's mistakes early and often, scoring 34 points off 29 turnovers.
Nevada was led by senior Kate Kevorken who finished with 20 points in her 22 minutes of play. Kevorken scored 11 of her points in the first half, hitting all three of her attempts from beyond the arc and both attempts from the free throw line. Sophomores Arielle Wideman and Danika Sharp each scored in double figures, with Wideman scoring 12 and Sharp 10. Senior Amanda Johnson led the team in assists with seven and fellow senior Kayla Williams had three blocks.
Nevada took an early lead building up the score to 20-4 in the first 10 minutes of the game. The Wolf Pack and the Argonauts ended the first half exchanging baskets, starting at the 4:34 mark with Senior Christina Gough scoring on a 3-pointer. During the exchange, Nevada also saw a 3-pointer from Kevorken and junior Chanelle Brennan added a bucket of her own.
Nevada went into the intermission with a 40-23 lead. The Pack had scored on 50 percent of its attempts from the field, going 4-6 from beyond the arc. Nevada's bench players scored 12 points, and the Pack already had 22 rebounds and 14 points off turnovers.
The Wolf Pack returns to action at Lawlor Events Center, with its season opener against St. Martin's on Sunday at 2 p.m.
