RUSTON, La. - The University of Nevada (5-18, 2-9 WAC) swept Louisiana Tech (9-19, 0-11 WAC) by scores of 25-13, 29-27 and 25-20 in a Western Athletic Conference road match Thursday night. With the victory the Wolf Pack improved to 5-18 and 2-9 in WAC play. The Lady Techsters fell to 9-19 and 0-11 in conference play.
Nevada scored the first three points of the match and never trailed in winning set one 25-13. Tessa Lea'ea and Elissa Ji both had four kills in the first set. Nevada hit .433 and the Lady Techsters .115.
Extra points were needed to decide set two as there were 14 ties and five lead changes. With the score tied at 27-27, Lea'ea's kill off an assist from senior setter Tatiana Santiago put the Wolf Pack on top 28-27. Ji served an ace to close out the set in favor of the Pack 29-27 and Nevada led the match 2-0. Ji, Lea'ea and Janelle Batista had four kills apiece in set two. Nevada continued its hot hitting at .333 and LA Tech hit .321.
Trailing 13-9 the Pack pulled even at 18-18 and outscored the Lady Techsters 7-2 the rest of the set to win 25-20 to sweep the match 3-0. The Pack also swept the first meeting this season in Reno. Ji served the final four points of the match. Nevada hit .355 in the final set and LA Tech zero.
Lea'ea led the Pack with 13 kills while Janelle Batista and Bonnie Paul totaled 10 kills apiece. Santiago finished with a match-high 44 assists and junior libero Kelly Chang had 15 digs.
Bridget Benditz led the Lady Techsters with 12 kills on the night. Setter Bianca Bin had 26 assists and libero Stephany Salas 18 digs.
Nevada hit .365 in the match and LA Tech .194. The Pack totaled six blocks compared to two for the Lady Techsters. Lea'ea had four blocks for the Wolf Pack.
Nevada plays its final road match of the season on Saturday night at New Mexico State with the match scheduled to start at 6 p.m. The match will be shown on ESPN3.com.
