RENO, Nev. - Seventh ranked and Western Athletic Conference leading Hawai`i (24-1, 12-0 WAC) knocked off the University of Nevada (4-18, 1-9 WAC) volleyball team tonight by scores of 25-14, 25-21 and 25-17 at the Virginia Street Gym. The loss dropped the Wolf Pack to 4-18 on the season and 1-9 in WAC play. The Rainbow Wahine improved to 24-1 and 12-0 in the conference.
UH built a five-point advantage midway through the first set 14-9 and closed out the set with an 11-5 run to win 25-14. The Pack hit .034 and Hawai`i .333 in the first set.
There were seven ties and three lead changes in set two before UH won 25-21. With the set tied at 21-21 the reigning WAC Player of the Year Kanani Danielson took for over for Hawai`i with a kill and then served the final three points to give the Rainbow Wahine the victory and 2-0 advantage in the set.
Set three was all UH as they jumped to a 15-8 lead on the way to the 25-17 victory and 3-0 match win. Nevada hit .069 and Hawai`i .357 in the final set.
Janelle Batista led the Pack with 10 kills on the night. Setter Tatiana Santiago had 25 assists and libero Kelly Chang seven digs for the Pack.
Danielson topped UH with 13 kills and Jane Croson added 12. Setter Mita Uiato dished out 37 assists and libero Elizabeth Blake finished with 11 digs.
UH hit .367 compared to .089 for the Pack in the match. The Rainbow Wahine finished with seven blocks and Nevada three.
Nevada takes to the road for a pair of WAC matches next week at Louisiana Tech on Thursday and at New Mexico State on Saturday evening.
