LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- Kevin Lucas and Gavin Kwon each shot 67 in the second round of the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate and Nevada moved all the way into fifth place heading into Tuesday's final round.
Nevada shot 9-over 293 as a team in the first round on Monday but blistered NMSU's University Golf Course in the afternoon with a 9-under 275 to sit at even par after 36 holes of the three-round tournament. Kevin Lucas opened with a 72 and then shot 67 in the afternoon and the senior is tied for seventh going into the final 18 holes.
Gavin Kwon also shot 67 in the second round, after a 74 in round one, and he is tied for 13th moving into the final round. Gustavo Chuang leads Nevada's trio of freshman with a 143 (T-25th) while Taylor Knoll (146; T-32nd) and Zak Griffiths (147; T-36th) also fared well.
UNLV leads the team race at 25-under after the two rounds. The final 18 holes will be played on Tuesday.
