LAS VEGAS - Led by senior captain Wessim Derbel, the University of Nevada men's tennis team continued its strong play at the ITA Regional Championships in Las Vegas Thursday, winning five main-draw matches.

"We had several great battles today with every athlete on this trip," head coach Erik Burton said. "They all fought to the last point."

Jordan Rozenfeld also earned Nevada one consolation-draw singles win.

The 17th seed in his draw, Derbel won two singles matches Thursday to play his way into the round of 16. His first victory came over Bernard Schoeman of UNLV, 6-4 6-1. He then upended the No. 1 overall seed in the main draw, George Batrakov of BYU 6-4, 7-6.

Teaming with newcomer Fernando Sunago, Derbel also piloted his doubles team into the round of 16 with an 8-2 victory over Keaton Cullimore and Michael Eraso of BYU.

"Moving into the round of 16 in a 128-man draw is great," Burton said about Derbel's play. "He is on his game this week."

Victor Ouvrard won his first match on Thursday, only to be bounced in the round of 32. Teaming with Moez Echargui, Ouvrard was also a part of Nevada's second doubles win, defeating Dan Buckingham and Nate Gross of Idaho State 9-7.
