LAS VEGAS - The University of Nevada men's tennis team opened play at the ITA Regional Championships with six main-draw wins Wednesday, three each in singles and doubles.
The Wolf Pack also earned three singles wins in consolation play on day one.
First round victories were highlighted by the three doubles wins in the morning session and inspired singles play from a few individuals in the afternoon session.
In that second grouping, Victor Ouvrard won his opening-round, main-draw contest 6-2, 7-6 (7) over Giacomo Miccini of Arizona. Coming back from a 6-2 deficit in the tiebreak, Ouvrard closed the match on a 7-1 run to oust the eighth-seeded Miccini.
"He kept his head in the match and pulled off the upset," head coach Erik Burton said about Ouvrard. "It was the match of the day."
Seeded 17th, senior Wessim Derbel beat Grant Taylor of Air Force 6-2, 6-1 in his first-round match.
"Derbel was in strong form today," Burton said. "He played extremely well on day one."
Quentin Mege also won his main-draw match, while Jordan Rozenfeld, Nathan Reix and Philip Hinojosa earned consolation-draw victories.
