DENVER, Colo. -
The University of Nevada women's basketball team was selected fourth in both the preseason coaches and media polls released by the Western Athletic Conference on Tuesday. Nevada finished fourth last season with a 9-7 mark in WAC play.
Louisiana Tech tops both polls with 144 points (13 first-place votes) in the media poll and 47 (five first-place votes) in the coaches poll. The coaches tabbed Utah State second and Fresno State third, while the media selected Fresno State second and Utah State third. Nevada had 33 points in the coaches poll and 80 from the media.
Senior Kayla Williams was selected to the Preseason All-WAC first-team by the coaches and second-team All-WAC by the media. Fellow senior Amanda Johnson was named second-team All-WAC by the media. Utah State's Ashlee Brown was named preseason player of the year by both polls.
"I am very happy that the coaches and media recognize how valuable Amanda and Kayla are to our program." Head Coach Jane Albright said. "They both have been very steadfast these last three years, have improved their games tremendously, and are poised to help us compete for a conference championship."
Last season, Nevada finished 22-11 after being picked third in both polls with Shavon Moore and Tahnee Robinson named to preseason honors.
