MOSCOW, Idaho - The University of Nevada (3-14, 1-5 WAC) volleyball team lost a four set Western Athletic Conference match at the University of Idaho (10-9, 4-2 WAC) tonight. The Wolf Pack took the first set 25-23 but the Vandals won the next three by scores of 25-18, 25-14 and 25-15. The loss dropped the Pack to 3-14 on the season and 1-5 in WAC play. Idaho improved to 10-9 and 4-2 in the conference.
In set one there were 13 ties and seven lead changes before the Pack prevailed 25-23. Senior setter Tatiana Santiago served the final two points for Nevada and junior outside hitter Elissa Ji posted five kills in the first set. Nevada hit .156 and Idaho .056 in the first set.
Set two was tied for the sixth time at 15-15 but a 7-1 Idaho run put the Vandals in front to stay as they won 25-18 to even the match at one set apiece. Ji once again led Nevada with four kills in set two. Nevada's attack percentage slipped to .050 while Idaho hit .226.
An 11-1 run by UI in the third set broke a 7-7 tie and the Vandals went on to win 25-14 to move in front 2-1 in the match. Freshman middle blocker Tessa Lea'ea topped the Pack with three kills in the set. Nevada hit .138 and Idaho .375.
Idaho took control of the final set early jumping to a 10-5 advantage and won set four 25-15 to take the match 3-1. Lea'ea and junior Erin Garvey finished with four kills each. The Pack hit .185 and UI .474 in the fourth set.
Lea'ea led Nevada with 12 kills on the night and Ji contributed 11. Ji added a team-high 13 digs to post a double-double. Santiago finished with 37 assists on the night.
Allison Walker and Alicia Milo had 17 and 12 kills respectively for UI. Walker finished with 10 digs to post a double-double on the night. Setter Jennifer Feicht had 46 assists and Cassie Hamilton totaled 15 digs.
Nevada had 10 blocks in the match and Idaho nine. Garvey and Lea'ea had five blocks each for the Wolf Pack. The Pack hit .125 and the Vandals .245 in the match.
The Pack travels to Logan, Utah for a match at Utah State on Saturday night at 6:00 p.m. PT.
