RENO, Nev. - The University of Nevada is looking to continue its stellar 2010-11 campaign when it hosts Idaho in its Western Athletic Conference opener on Thursday, Jan. 6 at 8 p.m. at Lawlor Events Center. The game will also be broadcast to a national audience on ESPNU, with Anne Marie Anderson (play-by-play), Abigail Waner (analyst) calling the action.
Nevada is currently in the midst of the best 13-game start to a season in school history. Nevada has never started a season at this point of the year any better than 10-3. Two teams in school history have started at 10-3, happening in 1999-2000 and 1985-86. The 1999-2000 team finished 19-10 and 1985-86 was 17-8. The Pack is currently in a five-game win streak for the first time since Feb. 2, 2009. The Pack is working on catching the longest win streak in school history which is at nine, spanning Dec. 4, 1999-Jan. 14, 2000.
The Pack is currently a perfect 7-0 at home, currently running at 33-8 at Lawlor over the past three seasons. Nevada lost two of its last three games at the end of last season, but went 13-4 on the year. Idaho swept the Pack last season winning in Reno on March 6, 2010 (69-62) and also in Moscow on Feb. 3, 2010 (61-53).
Thursday night's game will also serve an invitation to all local area high school students who bring their school ID to get into the game for free. In addition, the team will have player trading cards available for every home game for the rest of the season and players will be available after the games for autographs. The first two players available Thursday will be Amanda Johnson and Marissa Hammond.
