Box Score RENO, Nev.-Despite being down just nine points with less than 10 minutes to play, the University of Nevada women's basketball team fell 72-51 Saturday to Fresno State in front of 1,484 fans at Lawlor Events Center. Nevada dropped to 13-6 (2-4 WAC) on the year, while Fresno State improved to 15-6 (5-1 WAC), taking the ninth straight game in the all-time series.
Both teams struggled in shooting from the field, especially in the second half. Fresno State led 41-27 at the half and built up a 16-point by the 14:58 mark. Nevada then sparked a 9-2 run, started by a three-point play by senior Tahnee Robinson. After junior Kate Kevorken hit the first three-pointer of the game putting the Pack down just nine with 11:10 to play.
After exchanging fouls and free throws with the Bulldogs, the Wolf Pack was looking at the same defecit at the 9:33 mark. Then Fresno State took back control and started a run of its own. The 'Dogs held the Pack scoreless until 2:49 was left in the game, outscoring Nevada 16-0 and held control throughout the remainder of the game.
Nevada again had problems controlling the ball, giving up 22 turnovers on the game. The Pack was unable to make up for it with its usual offensive prowess, however, shooting just 28 percent from the field on 14-50 field goals. The Wolf Pack hit just one three-pointer on the game while Fresno State converted on seven. Nevada did again out-rebound his opponent, taking a 42-38 advantage over the Bulldogs.
Nevada had two players score in double figures with Robinson leading the way with 13 points. Junior Kayla Williams picked up her ninth career double-double, and fourth of the season, with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Shavon Moore also racked up 11 boards, scoring eight points. Fresno's Hayley Munro led all scorers with 19 points.
It will be a quick turnaround for the Pack as it will have to travel to Honolulu, Hawaii to play the Hawai'i Wahine on Monday night at the Stan Sheriff Center at 9 p.m. pacific. Hawai'i is currently winless in WAC play.
