Nevada Hosts Two WAC Matches This Week
The University of Nevada (6-8, 0-1 WAC) volleyball team will host a pair of Western Athletic Conference matches this week when San Jose State (6-9, 1-1 WAC) comes to Reno followed by Fresno State (6-7, 1-1 WAC) on Saturday. Both matches start at 7 p.m.
Breast Cancer Awareness Saturday Night
The University of Nevada volleyball team will wear pink on Saturday night for the Fresno State match to bring awareness to breast cancer and the Susan G. Komen Foundation Race for the Cure. Fans wearing a pink shirt will be admitted free to the match.
Silver & Blue Outfitters will also be selling pink shirts at the match with the proceeds going to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
The Race for the Cure takes place on Sunday at Boomtown with the Wolf Pack volleyball team in attendance as volunteers and participants in the race.
Nevada Drops Two Road Matches
The Wolf Pack lost twice on the road last week falling at #5 Hawai`i and at UNLV. Nevada has lost a season-high five in a row leaving them 6-8 on the season and 0-1 in Western Athletic Conference play.
In the match at Hawai`i the Pack lost 25-19, 25-18 and 25-20 in the conference opener. Senior’s Kylie Harrington and Lindsay Baldwin led the team with eight kills each.
Nevada rallied from an 0-2 deficit at UNLV only to drop the deciding fifth set 15-10. The Rebels won the first two sets 25-20 and 25-21 but the Pack scored victories in the next two sets 28-26 and 25-21. Unfortunately UNLV closed out the match with a 15-10 set five victory to take the match 3-2. Reno freshman Grace Anxo led the Pack with a career and match-high 17 kills.
Team Notes: Nevada has lost a season-high five matches in a row...the Pack are 5-1 at home, 0-4 on the road and 1-3 at neutral sites...the Pack won the Nevada (Sept 3-4) and Wolf Pack Invitationals (Sept. 10-11) that were played at home in the Virginia Street Gym...Nevada had its season-high four-match win streak snapped in a 3-1 loss to #24 Arizona, Sept. 3...Nevada was picked to finish seventh in the Preseason Western Athletic Conference Coaches’ Poll...the Pack rank eighth in hitting (.152%), eighth in assists (10.08 aps), sixth in blocking (2.16 bps), ninth in digs (12.35 dps), eighth in opponent hitting percentage (.226%), ninth in kills (11.15 kps) and eighth in service aces (1.08 saps) in the WAC.
Player Notes: Senior outside hitter Kylie Harrington has led the Pack in kills in eight-of-14 matches this season...Harrington has three double-doubles vs. Weber State(11 k, 10 d) on Sept. 3, vs. Notre Dame (17 k, 10 d) on Sept. 4 and vs. Northern Arizona (13 k, 10 d) Sept. 3...freshman outside hitter Grace Anxo produced a double-double in her first match vs. Utah Valley on Aug. 27 with 12 kills and 11 digs...junior setter Tatiana Santiago has the Pack’s other double-double with 22 assists and 10 digs vs. Maryland...Santiago became the 10th setter in school history to reach the 1,000 assist mark in her career this season...Harrington recorded her 1,000th career kill vs. UNLV (Sept 7) making her the 10th Nevada player to accomplish the feat...Harrington (Sept. 4 vs. ND) and Anxo (Sept. 27 at UNLV) each have 17 kills in a match which is the high by a Nevada player this season...senior middle blocker Lindsay Baldwin (8 ba), Anxo (1 bs, 7 ba) and sophomore middle blocker Janelle Batista (8 ba) all had eight blocks in the Pack’s 3-2 victory over Notre Dame (Sept. 4) ...Baldwin surpassed 400 career total blocks after her 8 blocks (1 bs, 7 ba) vs. Northern Arizona (Sept. 3)...Baldwin hit .667 in the Pack’s 3-0 victory over Weber State (Sept. 3)...Baldwin is six kills from 900 in her career...Baldwin’s 9 blocks (1 bs, 8 ba) is a Pack season-high...Santiago ranks eighth averaging 8.72 assists per set in the WAC...Harrington is seventh in kills (2.92 kps) and 10th in points (3.35 pps) per set in the conference...senior libero Nicole Link has led Nevada in digs 10 times this season with a season-high 23 dig effort vs. Northern Arizona (Sept. 3)...four times link has posted match-highs in digs...Link ranks sixth in the WAC averaging 3.73 digs per set...Harrington, Baldwin, Anxo and Santiago have started all 14 matches this season while Link has started all 14 matches at libero...reserve setter Dan Holt came off the bench at UNLV (Sept. 27) and nearly lead the Pack to a victory after they trailed 2-0 before falling 3-2 and she topped the team with 23 assists.
Pack Players Climbing Career Lists:
Four Pack players are current ranked in the top 10 in various career lists and continue to climb the charts this season. Senior middle blocker Lindsay Baldwin is fifth in career points with 1,181.5, is third with 383 block assists and fourth with 424 total blocks. Her .239 attack percentage is ninth on the career list. Two more solo blocks will move her into a tie with Carla Busalacchi (1990-93) for 10th.
Senior outside hitter Kylie Harrington is ranked in the Pack career top 10 in two categories. Harrington is sixth with 1,121 points and 10th with 1,006 career kills. She became just the 10th Nevada player to reach 1,000 career kills in the UNLV match on Sept. 27.
Another senior Nicole Link is fourth with 1,208 career digs. Link needs 36 digs to move past Tiffany Neumeier (1994-97) into third on the career list.
Junior setter Tatiana Santiago dished out her 1,000 career assist in the Hawai’i match becoming the 10th setter in Pack history to reach the loft mark.
