BEREKELY, Calif. - Two members of the Nevada women's tennis team came away from the Cal Nike Invitational with hardware this weekend.

Aodhnait Lombard won the ITA White Singles Flight after receiving a bye into the quarterfinals and Florence De Vrye won the ITA White Doubles flight.  De Vrye played with Ania Jeczmionka of Long Beach State on the way to the title.

The pair defeated Sarah Irvin and Susan Te of Pacific 8-2 in the finals.  They didn't lose more than three games in any of their matches, winning by scores of 8-3 and 8-1 in the quarter and semi-finals respectively.

The tournament featured two 32-woman singles flights (Gold and Blue) and one 16-woman singles flight (White) as well as two 16-team doubles flights (Gold and Blue) and one eight-team doubles flight (White).

Three other players, Emma Verberne, Lais Ogata and newcomer Michelle Okhremchuk also competed in the event.
Verberne made it to the round of 16 in the Gold singles draw.  She and Ogata advanced to the round of 16 in the Gold doubles draw as well.

In an ironic twist, Ogata was bounced in the first round of the Blue Singles main draw by Jeczmionka.

Ohkremchuk, competing in her first match as a member of the Pack, advanced to the round of 16 in the Blue Singles draw.

Some of the top collegiate women's tennis talent in the nation was on hand as players from 14 schools including Cal participated in action this weekend.

Players came from Arizona, Arizona State, Brigham Young, Fresno State, Minnesota, Long Beach State, Nevada, Pacific, Sacramento State, Santa Clara, USC, Saint Mary's College and San Jose State.

10 top-100 singles players and three ranked doubles teams took the courts in Berkeley.

The Pack will return to action at the All-American Invitational in Pacific Palisades, Calif. October 3-10.
